Ish is back at the school this September with his sell out Turkish cooking class. This time he is collaborating and sharing the kitchen bench with Serif Kaya from the hatted and fine dining restaurant, Ottomans Cuisine. The most beloved and awarded restaurant in Canberra.

Ish's classes are so enjoyable because of the flavoursome food he shares, his enthusiasm, his deep sense of community and his storytelling of growing up in Turkey. He teaches us that cooking, and food are the way to building relationships, creating memories and acknowledging our food origins.

He was born in Australia from parents who originated from Turkey. His Dad, from the town of Trabzon, a city on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey and located on the historical Silk Road. His Mum was from Samsun with its striking natural and historical sites from breathtaking canyons to important historic ruins. Both regions steeped in a deep food culture. Serif's own love of food came young, from his grandmother who was the village chef and the designated cook for community feasts, weddings and celebrations. She would forage for mushrooms, bring them home and cook them fresh for the kids. 

Serif opened Ottomans Canberra in the early 90's and together they went on to open Ottomans in Sydney in 2006 at Walsh Bay. Ish then went onto work at Otto in Woolloomooloo and Bistro Ortolan in Leichardt before returning to Turkey to immerse himself into Turkish life

We are so proud and excited to have Ish and Serif at Moonacres School. This beautiful class will see you creating foods special to Istanbul.

The class runs from 10:00am to 2pm. Treats and coffee on arrival and an abundant Turkish lunch at our shared school table.
