Winter Food and Art Class with Sophie Hansen and Annie Herron Friday 4 August
- Kesto: 6 Tunnit (noin)
- Paikka: Robertson, NSW
- Tuotekoodi: Sophie Hansen
Sophie Hansen is back at Moonacres school and this time she is bringing her mum, well known artist, Annie Herron.
Those of you who know Sophie, know she is one heck of a cook and an exciting and creative teacher. What we love the most is her authenticity around teaching and encouraging the sharing of a table of good food that shows us, that the simple act of eating with friends and family, can be so joyful.
She is the author and photographer of four cookbooks with another on the way, co-host of the podcast Something to Eat and Something to Read and, she spent three years working with Slow Food Editore in Northern Italy in her twenties. For the past ten years Sophie has been sharing recipes on her blog Local is Lovely and runs workshops around country NSW and beyond. She writes a weekly newsletter called ‘5 things to be cheerful about’ and if that's not enough! she was awarded in 2016, Australian Rural Woman of the Year in recognition of her commitment to rural communities.
Sophies approach to cooking and sourcing food - keep it simple, keep it seasonal and get comfortable with a strong repertoire of bombproof recipes. And most of all, make mealtimes and shared tables part of every day.
Annie is an art teacher who has taught art to all ages for over forty years and has been exhibiting for the last 30 years. She has a regular solo exhibition at Barry Stern gallery, Paddington, NSW and exhibits throughout Australia with her paintings and sculptures.
The first half of the day will have Sophie teaching a beautiful winter menu. This will be a hands-on cooking class with artistic ‘direction" by Annie. Annie will jump in here and there as we go with ideas and prompts for sketching and capturing the day in your notebooks (provided by us). The idea is that you finish this session with new cooking skills, ideas and recipes with inspiration on how to adapt them all to your tastes, family and pantry!
We will then sit down together to share our cooked food at the long table by the fire.
The afternoon will be a drawing and simple watercolour class with Annie. We will focus on drawing skills, some printing and watercolour basics. Everyone will be given a notebook to get started recording what you see and are inspired by in a journal format. Complete beginners welcome - the whole idea is getting comfortable and confidently creating.
You'll leave with at least four new recipes that come together to make a lovely wintery lunch, as well as a bunch of cooking skills, tips and ideas for many more good meals. And on the art front, seriously - Annie is the most wonderful teacher and will have us all drawing and creating with confidence and loads of inspiration.
The day ends with bubbles and a cheese platter around the fire. We hope you’ll leave full of inspiration and ideas for good things to cook, make and do going into the seasons.
It's a beautiful class for friends, a girls weekend away, mums/dads and family and anyone wanting an experience.
There will be brewed coffee & tea throughout the day along with treats made in the kitchen. The class runs from 9:30am to 3:30pm and Sophie, Annie and the team at Moonacres look forward to seeing you soon.
